1. 按传统语法，recently 一般用于肯定句，在否定句或疑问句中要用lately, 但在现代英语中此规则已没有被严格遵守。

2. 表示“最近”“近来”，一般与现在完成时(强调与现在的联系)或一般过去时(只是客观地陈述过去发生的事)连用(可置于句首、句中或句末)：We hear that he went abroad recently. 我们听说他最近出国了。/ I’ve only recently begun to learn French. 直到最近我才开始学法语。/ It happened quite [very] recently. 这是最近发生的事。

3. 不用来指现在或未来，所以不能用于现在时或将来时态：

误：I’ll go to Beijing recently.

4. 在 as recently as(近在…，就在最近的…)这一结构之后所接的表时间的短语，通常不用介词：

我就在最近的5月4日还见过他。

正：I met him as recently as May 4.

误：I met him as recently as on May 4.
