reason在定语从句中的用法

先行词是Reason的定语从句一般有以下三种结构：

Reason + why

第一个常见的结构是在名词reason后面接一个why引导的定语从句。

想象一下这种情形：一群学生正试图找出为什么他们的实验产生了异常结果。也许他们当中有人发现测量工具尚未清洗。他或她可能会说：

This may be the reason why our results were unusual.

这可能是我们的结果异常的原因。

以why引导的定语从句直接接在名词reason后面。

在第二种常用结构是在名词reason后不用任何词引导。

例如在本文开头的问句中：

Why did you go to the train station?

你可以回答说：

The only reason I went there was to meet my friend.

The reason that I went there was to meet my friend.

以上是三种常见的结构。

还有一种结构是Reason + for which,这在语法上也是正确的，但不如以上三种常见。

例如：A purpose is areason for which something exists or isdone.

reason后常可接动词不定式或for引导的短语或从句作定语,引导从句的why在口语中常省略。

3. the reason + 定语(从句)+ be + that引导的表语从句

The reason why he was late for school is that he stayed up last night.
